A self-starter, for the past 12 years regional artist Ted Pankowski has studied with such notable painters as Ned Mueller, Dianna Shyne, Henry Stinson, Matt Smith, DeAnne Lemley and his first teacher Patricia Raab to whom he owes his introduction to Russian Impressionism. In addition to the Northwest Watercolor Society, his affiliations include the Eastside Association of Fine Arts, Woodinville Artists Association of which he is a founding member, Oil Painters of America and the prestigious Puget Sound Group of Northwest Painters. An occasional award winner, Pankowski’s work is consistently juried into local and regional shows including his first successful entry into NWWS’ 2002 Members Exhibit and the 2002 West Coast Paper Show in Seattle. Working primarily in oils and acrylics, Pankowski teaches painting at Arts Umbrella and is represented by the KaeWyn Gallery both in Bothell. He maintains an independent studio in Woodinville with his wife Lynn Wilson and studio partner Steve Whitney.

 

 


 

Harold W. Petersen

Harold W. Petersen  is a member of the Seattle Art Directors Society and Puget Sound Group. Studying at both the University of Washington and the Burnley School of Art, he worked under Paul Immel, Edwin Burnley and Ernest Norling. His paintings have appeared in shows of the Northwest Watercolor Society, the Frye Museum, the Bellevue Arts &Crafts Fair and the Edmonds Art Festival.

 

 

 

 


Henry Petterson

Washington Art Association and Puget Sound Group. Involved with developing art curriculum for the Seattle School District. His teaching experiences include Visiting Professor (Art Education), assignments at the University of Washington, U.C.L.A., The University of British Columbia, Seattle University and Seattle Pacific University. His paintings have been shown in many Pacific Northwest shows including the Northwest Annual at the Seattle Art Museum, the Northwest Watercolor Show and the West Coast Oil Competition at the Frye Museum. He has had several one man shows and has authored "Exploring With Paint".

 


Brian Picard      Email

Brian Picard  was born in Minneapolis in 1954. He studied art with Alex Powers and Ned Mueller. Examples of juried exhibits and awards are: 1st Place -Federal Way Art Exhibition, Seahurst Gallery Annual Show; Western Washington State Fair; Northwest Watercolor Society Members Show, and Pacific Gallery Artists 1994 Purchase Award.

Brian works mainly in acrylic medium and his typical subject matter is figurative art. He is also a portrait artist.

 

 


H. “Rusty” Platz III    Email

Better known as “Rusty” to his friends, he graduated with honors from the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, California. He has been a painter in the Seattle area for the past thirty years and prior to that in Los Angeles.  He is currently, a life member and past president of the Puget Sound Group of Northwest Painters and a Signature Member in the Northwest Watercolor Society. He is now teaching oil and watercolor classes to all ages at the South County Senior Center in Edmonds, Washington.

Rusty’s paintings have appeared on calendars and greeting cards, in numerous publications, and in shows and exhibits throughout the United States, including the Puget Sound Area Exhibition at the Frye Art Museum, Seattle, Washington and the Northwest Watercolor Annual at the Bellevue Art Museum, Bellevue, Washington. As a result, his paintings are enjoyed in many private, corporate, and public collections. For four years, he was an Air Force Artist through his affiliation with the Society of Illustrators in Los Angeles; thus, some of his paintings are in the U. S. Air Force Art Collection, in Washington, DC.

 

 


Jerry Requa

Jerry Requa has been a member of PSGNWP since 1994. A graduate of Art Center in Los Angeles, he has followed a career in illustration and advertising art and has shown paintings and drawings in local art shows and auctions.

Born in Cincinnati Tom Ries began a life-long journey as an artist at an early age. His formal entry into the arts came during high school when Ries studied with number of prominent local artists, including Paul Chidlaw at the Cincinnati Art Academy. The early years transitioned into a commercial art career, television and enlistment in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.

For many years Ries lived and worked in New York as an Art Director, Designer and freelancer. He owned a small art studio and eventually became a principal in an ad agency representing many companies including American Airlines, St. Regis Paper and US News.

Drawn west to remain close to family Ries retired from the hectic pace of New York to settle in the Northwest. Ries was welcomed as a member of the Puget Sound Group in 2003 and looks forward to a rich and continuing journey pursuing artistic excellence.

Darren Rice is quickly establishing himself as one of the premier realist painters in America today.  Receiving his art training at Yale University, Mr. Rice has since earned a reputation for both his bold, confident brushwork and his keen ability to capture the nuances of light on canvas.  Rice's masterful treatment of light is due in large part to the countless hours he has spent painting from life outdoors.  Mr. Rice currently divides his time between landscape, still life and marine-oriented subject matter.  Rice's recent appointment as Official Artist To The United States One World Challenge for The America's Cup is a compliment to his talents that opens up great prospects for his continuing successful future.  Additionally, Rice was recently selected as one of the "Top 100" in the prestigious Arts For the Parks contest, an international competition. 

 


John Ringen

John Ringen earned a Masters of Fine Art in Painting from the University of Washington. He is a retired Seattle Art teacher and Illustrator.  He presently teaches painting at North Seattle Community College and is a past president of the Puget Sound Group and the Northwest Watercolor Society. John is considered by his peers to be an artist ’s artist. 

 

 


Joseph Root

Born and raised in Everett, Joseph has been influenced by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. His work reflects that beauty through various styles and mediums. His work hangs in galleries and private collections, both locally and internationally.

 


 

Granderson Russell

Born Los Angeles he is a past member of the  Board of Advisors for the  Pratt Center for the Arts and member of the Puget Sound Group. As a painted and sculptor he is a frequent exhibitor in regional art shows.  His work has appeared in the Northwest Annual at the Seattle Art Museum; the Bellevue Arts and Crafts Fair; the Puyallup Fair and the Boeing Art Club Shows, and is part of many private collections. He studied art under such instructors as Jess Cauthorn,  Dannie Pierce, Bill Cumming, Steven Fuller and Nick Damascus.

 

 

 


Alan Rushing

A studio artist and freelance illustrator, he has shown extensively in the Puget Sound area since1989 and other areas of the country. He attended school at the Art Institute of Seattle, School for Visual Concepts, and the Illustration Academy in Kansas City, with Instructors Bill Cumming, Jim Dietz, Robert Hoggard, Dean Williams and Mark English. Alan is part of a small group of young figurative artists making a strong impact on the Seattle art scene

 

 

 


William E. Ryan

Bill was born 1936 and graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. He is a member of the American Society of Marine Artists and PSGNWP. Bill is listed in Who ’s Who in American Art,  the18th edition and the Dictionary of Sea Painters

 

 

 


Bart Rulon

Bart Rulon’s exhibits include Arts for the Parks Top 100 in 1991,92 and 1994.  He was awarded the 1994 Bird Award of Merit. He exhibited at the Birds in Art Exhibition 1992- 94 and the Society of Animal Artists Annual Exhibition  in 1993 and 1994.

 

 

 


Jacques Rupp

A graduate of the University of Washington and the Art Center Los Angeles, he worked at Disney-Hanna Barbera ( M.P. Academy) and as a news artist at the Seattle Times where he won seven art awards.
