This month's guest artist will be Mitchell Albala, best-selling author of "Landscape Painting: Essential Concepts and Techniques for Plein Air and Studio Practice" and longtime instructor at Gage Academy. Mitchell's main topic will be the Notan. His articles and workshops on the subject have helped popularize the Notan and redefine how it can be used by contemporary artists. Mitchell will introduce this important compositional tool with a short slide presentation, followed by a live demonstration and a Q&A session. As an instructor for over 30 years and a successful writer, Mitchell can also field field questions about how teaching and writing have integrated into his life as an artist.


Biography

Mitchell Albala is the author of Landscape Painting: Essential Concepts and Techniques for Plein Air and Studio Practice (Watson-Guptill, 2009). A respected teaching artist for more than 25 years, he currently teaches at Gage Academy of Art, Pacific Northwest Art School, and artEast.
