PSG Signature Member Alan Newberg presents dramatic large scale wood sculptures and new paintings inspired by WeeGee, the New York journalistic photographer from the '30's & '40's.

More info:

Alan Newberg will present a show of dramatic, large scale new sculptures executed in wood in his September show at CVG. The sculptures will explore the acts of visualization and imagination using abstract and semi-abstract form that springs from and significantly alters the natural form of the source material. At times the results are very geometric and in other cases are organic, anthropomorphic, or even including parts sculpted by nature. They juxtapose bold with subtle, weight with lightness, void with volume inviting and defying interpretation.

Along with the sculptures a series of new paintings inspired by WeeGee, the internationally famous New York journalistic photographer from the ‘30s and ‘40s will be on display. These paintings contrast the small size of the original photographs with large scale, the black and white with color, the smooth glossy print with the texture and stroke of oil paint and brush. The paintings will be paired with examples of original WeeGee photographs from the artist’s collection.

The artist will present a free gallery talk in the gallery on Saturday, September 20th at 2 PM where he will discuss his creative process and sources for his ideas as well as explain and demonstrate his techniques. Questions will be encouraged.
