The Value of Art

Appraisals, Economics & Marketing

Margaret Minnick hosts a conversation about the value of art, from the perspective of an appraiser.

TOPICS: What factors affect value?  How does an appraiser make monetary valuations?  What can you do to assist an appraiser (and those who collect your work)?  What factors can boost marketability for your work?

Drawing from her experience as an art appraiser for fifteen years, Margaret will focus on what she's gleaned about monetary values and works of art. She'll discuss what factors affect her determination when she has to evaluate a work for an estate, insurance or donation appraisal report.  She'll share examples of various media from both well-known artists as well as those who are more obscure.

Margaret Minnick is a Certified Appraiser of Personal Property, the highest designation of the International Society of Appraisers. She has earned two certifications: Fine Art and Antiques & Residential Contents. Margaret received a Master of Arts degree from New York University. Although she is now a full-time appraiser, for over twenty years Margaret taught courses in the History of Furniture, Modern Furniture, and Art History at Bellevue Community College and the Art Institute of Seattle. Scholarship underscores Margaret's approach to appraising in identification of the object, finding the proper expert consultants, and determining multiple price points to ascertain value.
