Tenaya has worked professionally as an industry artist, teacher, gallery artist, and business owner.
While working in the video games industry, Tenaya grew increasingly compelled to produce physical artwork, and to achieve a level of mastery equivalent to the Renaissance painters who originally inspired him. He later left the video games industry to embark on a five-year apprenticeship with artists Jeff Watts and Juliette Aristides.
While apprenticing, Tenaya took a position working with incarcerated youth where he discovered his passion for teaching. He recognized the empowerment his students experienced as they learned to express themselves through drawing and painting. After completing his studies with Juliette Aristides, he founded his own academy, Georgetown Atelier to offer the foundations of classical art as building blocks for imaginative professional artists. Georgetown Atelier is comprised of its flagship full-time program as well as a variety of part-time options.
Today Tenaya continues to develop his own artistic career as well, focusing on imaginative large-scale works. He has an upcoming solo show at Krab Jab Gallery this June.
