Artist Bio

Now living in Langley, WA. Cary was born and raised in the Netherlands and grew up among some of the most beautiful art in the world. She studied languages, public relations and marketing in the Netherlands.

Cary has shown an abundance of creative energy throughout her life. After selling a business in decorative arts and design, she pursued fine arts and painting. Her formal art training started at the Seattle Academy of Fine art, now Gage Academy. She also spent time at the Florence Academy of Art and attended many other workshops in Europe and the US. Cary comes from a family of painters; her aunt was the Parisian painter Mena Loopuyt (1902-1991) and her great uncle was Johan Joeke Gabriël van Wicheren (1808-1997), a Frisian portrait painter.

Cary’s work has been exhibited in numerous juried shows among others Oil Painters of America and the Poncho Invitational in Seattle. Her work is in private collections in the US and Europe.

In 2006 Cary started her second business, the Fall City Fine Art Studio. It was relocated from Fall City to Langley on Whidbey Island and renamed Whidbey Island Fine Art Studio (WIFAS).

WIFAS is a studio/school for artists to study with nationally renowned instructor/artists that come to Langley for in depth workshops. www.whidbeyislandfas.com

Cary is the first female member invited to join this historical group of artists. Established in 1928 by founders Eustace Ziegler and Kenneth Callahan, the PSGNWP bears the distinction of being one of the first associations of traditional fine art painters and sculptors in the United States. The group has played a major role in strengthening and sustaining the visual arts in the Pacific Northwest through scholarships, mentorship, community service and celebrated artworks.
